The Commission Process
So, you’ve come to realize the value of a custom work of art…Congratulations! Let me help you with that.
But, first, here’s what you need…
Photos: Once you’ve decided what subject you would like painted, please take or gather up several photos of that subject. It helps me to see different angles so I can get a better feel for the subject, since I’m not there in person. A video (not mandatory) is also worthwhile and helps me to see the personality, scale, and other details of the subject. Understand from the outset that the better the photo, the better the painting or drawing you’re commissioning. Good lighting, good color, and a clear, detailed image is what I work best from.
Choose your medium, support and size: I work in a variety of mediums, but specialize in colored pencil and acrylic. Because I work on finished wood board (called gessoboard) for my colored pencil art, the result is a polished “painting” that can either stand alone without a frame if using cradleboard, or be framed if using a flat panel. For acrylic, I typically paint on stretched canvas, with thickness of either 0.75″ (for framing) or 2″ (stand alone), depending on whether it is going to be framed or unframed.
Let me know if you plan to have the painting framed after you receive it, or if you would like a more contemporary unframed look using a thicker support. I do not provide the framing. No mounting is required due to the support that is used.
Take a look at my pricing page for an idea of sizes and what they will cost, and decide how big or small you would like your finished piece to be.
The painting will include the hook and wire for hanging.
Terms and Conditions: Please read through my terms and conditions.
Once you’ve gathered up your photos and made some decisions, send me an email with everything included. You can contact me through the contact page on this site, or directly by my email address which is firstname.lastname@example.org. If you have any questions or are unsure about the medium or composition, we can work through it together.
When you’re ready to place your order, confirm that you agree to the terms and conditions and once we’ve come to an understanding of the project scope and cost, then you will pay a $50 non-refundable deposit to secure your place in my client waiting list. The remaining balance is due upon completion and full satisfaction of your portrait. Payments can be made securely with credit/debit card via Paypal.
Once I begin your painting, I will provide you with 3 progress images as the work progresses (depending on how long it takes me, based on the size and scope). This will keep you up-to-date on the status of the work. I will also post these progress images on social media (my website, Facebook or Instagram usually). If this is a gift, please let me know at the time the project is commissioned what date you plan to gift the painting, and I’ll refrain from posting anything until no less than 3 days after that.
Upon completion, I will email you photos of your painting for your approval. Upon full satisfaction of the finished painting based on these images, you will be invoiced for the balance, which is the full purchase price minus the $50 deposit. This balance must be paid within 7 business days post-completion. See the terms and conditions for additional details.
After payment is received, your painting will be securely wrapped, packaged and shipped to you via 24-hour courier (UPS). Please let me know if you would like to purchase insurance for your shipment.
