Laurelwood Studio is home to the beautiful and inspiring artwork of Melinda Zielfelder, who lives in Ellington, Connecticut with her husband and son. Melinda has been involved in arts and crafts for as long as she can remember, starting with crocheting and drawing at the age of five. Throughout her public school years, she won awards in art, and was keen on studying art history in high school in her spare time. She has sewn clothing, knitted scarves, made macrame, scrapbooked, made jewelry, crafted hand-made paper, created clay beads, and has even written a novel, among many other pursuits.
Today, she is deeply involved in the fine arts, working in colored pencil, acrylic, digital, oil, pastel, graphite, and watercolor on a wide variety of supports, and she also creates vector art and logos for local businesses. She is planning to delve into glass bead making to add to her varied repertoire, so stay tuned for that!
Melinda is primarily self-taught, but has attended some courses through the Art Institute as well as Manchester Community College, studying drawing, perspective, color theory, painting, digital artwork, art history, interior design, and 3-D design.
