Laurelwood Studio is the site dedicated to the artwork of Melinda Zielfelder, who lives in Ellington, Connecticut with her husband and son.  Melinda has been involved in arts and crafts for as long as she can remember, starting with crocheting and drawing at the age of five.  Throughout her public school years, she won awards in art, and studied art history in high school in her spare time.  She has sewn clothing, quilted blankets, knitted scarves, crocheted hats, made macrame, scrapbooked albums, crafted jewelry, created hand-made paper and clay beads, and has even written a novel, among other pursuits.

Today, she is deeply involved in the fine arts.  As a member of the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA) her preferred medium is colored pencil, but she is also skilled in acrylic painting, digital, oil, pastel, graphite, and watercolor on a wide variety of supports.  Melinda also creates vector art and logos for local businesses.

Melinda is primarily self-taught, but has attended some courses through the Art Institute of Pittsburgh as well as Manchester Community College, studying drawing, perspective, color theory, painting, digital artwork, art history, figure drawing, interior design, and 2- and 3-D design.
